Nellie Laffoon and James Arthur Smith -Clay co., Mo.

By Kathy Smith August 15, 2012 at 07:52:24

Some time back I made contact with a Rev. Mel Morris concerning Nellie Laffoon and Missouri Jane Blevins Smith Laffoon.

Nellie married James Arthur Smith
Missouri Jane Blevins Smith married a James Laffoon.

I was trying to find out who these Laffoon's were.

Rev Mel Morris thought James Laffoon to be James Warde Laffoon. I have found today that to be not so. I want to convey this to that family because I see on World Connect Project they have Missouri Jane Smith as the second spouse
of James Warde Laffoon.

In the 1900 Census Kearny, Clay, Mo. I found a Zachariah Laffoon and wife Sarah. It listed there children.
James M 37 born 1863 Mo -WIDOWED- son
Albert B. 25 - son
Jesse b. 18 -son
Mary E. 15 - daughter
Harry H. -G.son
Nellie M. G. daughter born Oct 1891 Mo.
Mary E. G. daughter

I found the Draft Card of James Arthur Smith which lists
his spouse as Nellie. The family was always told her name to be Nellie Laffoon.

I found James M.to be James Marshall Laffoon.
Find-A-Grave lists his two wives as Lina Randall and M.J. Smith.
Our Missouri Jane Blevins Smith Laffoon.

I found Zachariah to be the son of George and Mahala Everett
Zachariah and Sarah E. Reams
James Marshall and Lina Randall
Nellie Laffoon and James Arthur Smith

Now we also know where my husband's name of Marshall came from. We knew of Alexander but never Marshall.
He was named after James Marshall Laffoon..
Marshall Alexander Smith
He always called Missouri gramma Laffoon.

So if anyone out there knows of Rev Mel Morris or the family who has James Warde Laffoon and Missouri Jane as his second spouse , please let them know that so they can change it.
