Hi, I'm John Laforge, born in England 21st March 1954. My father is Maurice Laforge who came to England in the early 50's as an ice hockey player. He played pro hockey for several teams in the UK and met and married my mother, Joyce Laforge in Nottingham in about 1952/3. His mother was Marina Laforge who died last year at the age of 101. His father was Donat Laforge who was an RCMP officer who died when I was very young. Regretfully I never met my grandfather but I did meet my grandmother when I was 17. The reason I am posting this message is that I am certain that the original name of my ancestors was not Laforge but was Latour, and that this name was changed when the family migrated to Canada in seventeen hundred and something. Also...I still don't believe my dad when he tells me how high the snow reached around his log cabin...In England we sometimes get over two inches of snow in one night!!!
