I have done extensive research on my family origins dating back to 1733. Most of the La Franca's in my family came from Partinico which is 45 miles from Palermo, Sicily. As of this date there are only 28 La Franca's in Partinico which are definetely related and only 35 La Franca's in Palermo which are related but distant cousins. Both of my great grandmothers were La Franca. Antonina married into the Vitale family and Nunzia married into the Cipolla family. Other last names of La Franca marriages are into the Ficcarrotta family, Imperiale family, Toia family, Casarubbia Family, Licavoli family, Ascone family, Addotta family and DalMazio family. The first names of the La Franca's in my family origins are as follows: Agostino, Angelo, Antonina, Antonino, Catarina, Fillipo, Francesco, Giacchino, Giovanni, Guiseppa, Guiseppe, Leonardo, Margheritta, Maria, Maria Anna, Nunzia, Pietrina, Pietro, Rosa Maria, Rosina, Salvatore, Vincenza, Vincenzia, Vincenzo, Vitina and Vito.
In the Partinico Cemetery there is a La Franca family Crypt dating back to the 1700's were many family ancestors are buried. There are others buried in this crypt that do not have the La Franca name because the were married to someone in the La Franca line and died before they did and were given their spot in the crypt and were buried elsewhere in the cemetery. A perfect example would be my great grandfather Rosario Cipolla is buried there but my great grandmother Nunzia La Franca is not.
If any of the last names that I have just given you match any of the last names of of your ancestors than there is a possibility that somewhere down the line we are somewhat related. I have also given you the first names in my La Franca line in which I do not have all of the brothers and sisters listed because I couldn't make the connection or just didn't know.
Here is a last of other Italian surnames that are in my line. Addamo, Amorello, Ania, Barcellona, Bruno,Capriola which is my last name, Cosentino, Cricchio,Di Meceli, Di Pace, Drago, Ferrara, Gulino, Luciano, Lupo,Marsala, Montelione, Orlando, Reale, Ricupati, Rocco, Rubino, Sancimino, Sola, Sollena, Tarantola, Tinnirello and Vecchio.
Although my family origins are from Partinico. My family on my dad's side Capriola moved to Palermo in the early 1930's. My grandparents the Di Pace's on my mothers side came to America in 1913 settling in Detroit, Michigan and went back in the 1920's. My parents met in Partinico and came to America in 1948. They settled in Newark, New Jersey and we moved here to Detroit, Michigan in the 1960's.
If any of the names I've given you ring a bell, drop me a line. I have a groups room on Yahoo Groups and if you are related in any way we shall welcome you with open arms. Until then Ciao for now.
