It looks close, but something is wrong.
The 1880 census shows Samuel and Matilda living in Short Creek, Harrison Co, Ohio. But, according to the 1880 census, Samuel was born in 1824 (not 1826) and Matilda was born in 1838 (not 1828).I suppose the transcriber cold have misread a 2 for a 3, but, according to Morland St. Clair's family Bible, Samuel and Matilda's children are:
George (b 2/25/1856)
Rebecca (b 1858)
Elisabeth (Libby)(b 1862)
Jane and John (b 1864)
Emma (Aimy) (b 1867)
Franklin S. (Frank) (b1869)
Parks (b 1871)
Susan (Susie) (b 1874)
Ross Etta (b 1876)
Max (b btwn 1880 - 1884) and
Morland St. Clair (b 4/13/1885)
i.e. I have no listing for James, and Elisabeth wasn't born until 1862, so she shouldn't have been on the 1860 census. Also, my Elizabeth married Aaron H. Mercer, Jane married a man with the last name of Kincaid, Ross Etta married four times, the last time to a Hendershot, Susie married William Masters, Emma married Joseph Covert, Parks died from a fall from a horse on his way to college, Franklin married Jessie Frances Peregoy, George married Martha Ellen Mercer, John married Margaret Ann Grimes, Rebecca married George Smith, and Morland St. Clair married Florance Mae Stocker, no references to a Laizure.
I don't know if my ancestors were careless when the census was taken, or what.I do know that Matilda died when Morland was born, and the younger children were passed around to relatives (mainly Jane and Elizabeth (Libby)).During the 1900 census, Morland was living with the Chandler family in Cadiz, OH, as a "student attending school and a servant."Others living in the same household were Heity Chandler (b 1868), Annie Chandler (b 1874) and Elsie Chandler (b 1898).Family lore says the Chandlers were somehow related to Jane, but I haven't been able to trace the link.My Samuel's parents were born in PA. and Matilda's mother was a Hart, from England.
