Hi,
This is Sharon who posted the original message about cancer in the family. Joy is my middle name.
The geneticist was not able to confirm any particular cancer syndrome in the Laizure line. We do not have the gene brca1 or brca2. That is the gene for breast cancer and several other reproductive system cancers. There are not many cases of breast and prostate cancer in the family.
However, we do have a very broad variety of cancer in the family. I found my 2 youngest uncles both had skin cancer in the past, but neither of them had melanoma. So every one of 7 siblings had cancer. That is a very high rate of cancer, so the geneticist sent our family information on to other major cancer centers in hopes that another researcher might recognize what is going on and be able to tell us what gene or genes have a mutation.
