married 4 Feb 1856 to Mary E. HANDLEY b 10 December 1840 IL d 14 January 1923, Vinson, Harmon Co., OK.(A descendant of this family has a different date for this marriage as m. 25 JAN 1855 in Bond County, IL, which is probably correct.)
Their daughter Lucy Marion LAMKIN b 3 November 1880, Vernon Co, MO married James Charles WORRELL on 16 October 1896 in Greer Co, Oklahoma Territory d 24 January 1962 in Amarillo, TX
This information and additional documentation was supplied by Laura Mildred WORRELL HUDSON, the daughter of Lucy Marion LAMKIN and Charlie WORRELL.
The Baptist Center for Historical Studies wrote me a letter, dated November 10, 1986, giving the following details of G. M. LAMKIN's service.(I noticed that in the minutes his name is given as G. W. and G. M.)"In 1867, Lamkin was the clerk of the organizational meeting of the Nevada association.In1870 he was elected moderator and treasurer.During this time he was pastoring the Olive Branch Baptist Church, Sandstone, MO.In 1879 he was pastoring the Salem Church in Nevada (this church is now defunct). In 1880, Lamkin pastored the Avola Baptist Church, and in 1882 he pastored the Bethany Church in Warwick, MO."
They provided me with copies of the minutes of the Nevada Association of United Baptists. Here's the dates of the ones I have.
There is a copy of 'The First Century of the Nevada Baptist Association, 1867-1967' that states "From statistical records the first associational meeting was in 1868 at Nevada City with Elder Jess Johnson, Moderator, and G. W. Lamkin, Clerk."Under the heading of 'Missions' it states "In 1872 Elder G. M. Lamkin was appointed missionary "to be allowed two dollars per day if he could collect it off the field..."
I also have a copy of the cattle and horse brands for G. M. LAMKIN recorded 6 May 1892 in what was then Greer Co, TX but later became Greer Co, Oklahoma Territory (1896), Greer Co, OK (1907) and finally Harmon Co, OK (1909).It's terrible trying to find where the records are for this period of time, particularly since there was a fire at the Greer Co Courthouse that destroyed a lot of the earliest records.
From "Planning the Route: A History of Harmon County (OK)," I have family histories of the LAMKIN and WORRELL families.
I also have a GEDCOM file that I downloaded showing the ancestry of Plummer and George Marion LAMKIN.I cannot verify its accuracy.
