I am researching my ggg grandfather Jameson "James" Alexander of Garrard County, Kentuckywho owned land near or on the Back Creek. As of this time, I have not positively identified his parents, but believe his mother may be Sarah Alexander who appears on Madison County, Kentucky Tax Lists in the 1780's and 1790's, and is assumed to be a widow of Unknown Alexander.
In 1793, Sarah Alexander of Madison County, KY married Timothy Logan (1759-1848).This was a second marriage for Timothy and more than likely Sarah Alexander's second marriage.I have been told that Sarah Alexander's maiden name was Lampton, but I have found no proof.Does anyone have information pertaining to a possible marriage of Sarah Lampton to Unknown Alexander which may have occurred in the 1760's or 1770's, which possibly occurred in Virginia? If such a marriage occurred, does anyone have information regarding the parents of Sarah Lampton who married Unknown Alexander?
I don't have any further information with regard to Sarah Alexander other than she died by 1810 when Timothy Logan married for a third time to Sarah Smith.
However, I have the following information pertaining to Jameson "James" Alexander who first appears on the 1799 Garrrard County, Kentucky Tax List. On March 1, 1804, James Alexander married Elizabeth Logan in Garrard County, KY with Charles Finnell as minister. I believe James Alexander and Elizabeth Logan had the following children: Sarah "Sallie"(Alexander) Hubbard, John A. Alexander (my 2nd great-grandfather), Samantha (Alexander) Lobbin, Mary (Alexander) Goodman, Lucinda Alexander (died young), Serilda Elizabeth (Alexander) Lynch, and two other sons (whose names I believe were Hugh and James Rice). The family moved from Garrard County, Kentucky to Randolph County, Missouri in the 1820's, and James Alexander died there by September 30, 1845.
In 1848, some of the above named children assigned a power of attorney to collect from the estate of Timothy Logan in Garrard County, KY. It seems likely that Timothy Logan was their maternal grandfather (Elizabeth Logan, wife of James Alexander was probably the daughter of Timothy Logan and Sarah Boone).
Jameson "James" Alexander and Elizabeth Logan are the ancestors of General Omar Bradley through their daughter Sallie (Alexander) Hubbard.
Any information regarding Sarah Alexander of Madison County, Kentucky in the 1780's and 1790's whose maiden name may have been Lampton is greatly appreciated.
