The information that the last two or three of you posted on the Landaus of Waldeck and Illinois is interesting to me, because I am related to that group in a couple of ways. Also, I have a fair amount of information to share.
In 1854, my ancestor, Charles Paulus (b. 1833), emigrated from Goddelsheim, Waldeck, Germany, to rural Lincoln, Logan County, IL.He married Margaret Wessling, who had emigrated from Gehrde, Hannover, Germany. At the time that they met, she was living and working in Petersburg, IL.
Margaret Wessling's sister, Anna, had married Christian Landau. In our family, it was said that he had come from Waldeck, but only upon reading your postings did it dawn on me that he actually came from Goddelsheim, the same town that Charles Paulus was from. So, the two men married sisters, and they both were born in Goddelsheim.Later, they would own farms in rural Lincoln, IL that were near to one another. My grandmother, Minnie Paulus (Baker) (1870-1957) often spoke of her cousins the Landaus. She lived all of her life in Lincoln, and I was born in Lincoln myself.
Christian Landau and Anna had eight children: Henry (1859), Herman (1861), Louise (1863), John (1866), Emil (1868), Frank (1871), Mary (1872), and Nettie (1875).Incidentally, their surname is mis-spelled in the IL/US Logan County 1870 census as Landan.
I also have a copy of the Goddelsheim Sippenbuch that one of you posters mentioned. So, if there is any further data that I can help you with, I'll be glad to.I don't want to be paid anything for the data, but would like to have whatever data you may have that I don't so that I can build my own data base better. Thanks again for your interesting postings.
