My name is Bruce Hall.My grandmother was Rosanna (Simmendinger) Wiest.Family traditond holds that the Simmendingers were related to the famous Dorsey brothers, Tommy and Jimmy.I have quite a bit of information at home about the Dorsey and Simmendinger families of Schuylkill Co., PA; however, there are still a couple of loose ends that prevent me from identifying the missing link.
Here's what I know:
My great-grandfather, John Simmendinger Jr., fathered ten children by his wife and a bastard son by another woman. This son, William Simmendinger, was deposited on John's doorstep, taken in by John's wife, and raised as a member of the family.Well, almost: he was not named in John's will which identified all of his natural children.
Little is known about William. He seems to have disappeared offthe face of the earth. It seems that he was a miner, living in Minersville, and was married to one Margaret Langton, a member of a Roman Catholic family from that area.(All the other Simmendingers were Lutheran.)Margaret (Langton) Simmendinger is buried in St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery (a Roman Catholic cemetery) in Minersville along with members of the Langton, Brennan, Kelly, Buggy, and Purcell families.William is not.We have no idea where he is buried or even if it is in the Schuylkill Co. Area.
Thomas Dorsey Sr., the father of Tommy and Jimmy, the band leaders, was married to a Theresa Langton.Tommy and Jimmy were born in two small "patches" close to Shenandoah, PA.
Any information that you can provide me about this connection would be greatly appreciated.
