Andrew J. Lanius apparently died in 1839 or very early in 1840 in Catahoula Parish because his succession was dated 25 Jan. 1840. This is the accounting of his estate on the Black River. ? Lot and household and kitchen furniture adjudged to Mrs. Sarah Lanius - $35; ? Bells and collars to William Lanius $8; ? 125 bushels corn to John Lanius - $93.75; ? 13 head of cattle to Benjamin O. Lanius - $132; ? 1 water jar to Sarah Lanius - $2 ? 1 skiff to Benjamin Lanius - $2 ? 40 head hogs to Oren McClure - $80 ? Land adjudged to William and Sarah Lanius for the price of $6090; ? I yoke of oxen to B.F. Glasscock Jr - $50; ? 2 odd ox to William Lanius - $35.
Does anyone know who these Lanius were and how they were related, assuming there was a relationship. The only Laniuses I can find in the 1830 Catahoula Parish census were in the household of Jacob Lanius (age 20-29) and the household of Charlotte Lanius (age 30-39).In the 1840 census of Catahoula Parish, La., I can find only the household of Nancy Lanius (age 50-59) although there is a William Linaze (age 20-29) listed on the same page.
I am trying to research the ancestors and descendants of the Benjamin O. Lanius, who married (1) Jerusha White 2 Dec. 1841, Catahoula Parish, and (2)Mary Nugent 6 July 1853, Concordia Parish, La.
Benjamin's mother has been identified as Charlotte Lanius.
