LANTRIP, ELLA RUTH CHAPMAN died Saturday, January 21, 2006. Ms. Lantrip was born January 14, 1906 in Ragland, Alabama. She moved to Birmingham at an early age with her parents, Tom and Ada Chapman. She married Oscar Vann Lantrip in 1926, he was an engineer on the Frisco Railroad. They celebrated 65 years of marriage and had two sons, O.V. Lantrip, Jr. and Michael Joseph Lantrip. She was a graduate of Phillips High School and attended Southeastern Bible College, receiving a degree in Bible and Early Children's Education. She taught Sunday School for sixty plus years and Bible Studies in many churches. She taught in Howard College Extension at Samford University. Ms. Lantrip was a member of the Railroad Auxiliary, serving as Chaplain and other officers. She was a lifetime member in the Samford Scholarship Auxiliary and an active member of the Alabama Chapter of the National Women's Temperance Union. Before her marriage she was a model for Pitiz's Department Store. She was a former member of the Lake Highland Baptist Church. She transferred her membership to Ruhama Baptist Church in 1982. She later transferred her membership to First Baptist Church Irondale at the time of Ruhama and Irondale's merger. Her entire life was dedicated to serving family, friends, and others. She loved supporting pastors studying for the ministry with her prayers and financial help. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Vann Lantrip; parents, Tom and Ada Chapman, son, William J. Key; brothers, Harold Chapman, Hulett Chapman; sisters, Margaret Wright and Louise Nance. She is survived by her sons, O.V. Lantrip (Dovie), Michael Lantrip (Vicki); grandchildren, Tony Lantrip, Jeff Lantrip, Chris Lantrip, Phillip Lantrip, Jennifer Lantrip, Sharon Lemons, and Kevin Morgan; 13 great grandchildren; one great, great grandchild and cousin, Frenchie Meadows (Iana). A Celebration of her life will be held at the Roebuck Funeral Home Chapel, Wednesday, January 25, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 24, 2006 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Special thanks to Dr. Greg Flippo, the special nurses and employees for the wonderful love and care she received in the last days of her life. Also, those who faithfully visited her in the nursing home. Ms. Lantrip Celebrated her 100th Birthday at Lakeview Nursing Home on Friday, January 13, 2006. A special presentation was given by special guest, Mike Core, a representative from the Railroad Retirement Board who presented her with a special letter. Rev.
