Are you aware that there were two listings for Henry Lape families in Clear Creek and Amanda Township, Fairfield county, Ohio on the 1850 Census ? Hopefully you are still actively working here and may be able to give me a clue as to why there were two families with the same first names, and just where I fit in the melee.
In Clear Creek on Sept. 19, 1850 there was Henry Lape age 58, wife Catharine age 50, children, John 23, Henry 20, Catharine 16, Sophia 13, and Jeremiah 11. Here Henry said he was from MD and Catharine was from PA.
In Amanda Twp.on October 04,1850 there was Henry Lape age 60, wife Catharine 58 and children John 24, Harrison 21, Catharine 18, Sophia 16, and Jeremiah 14. Here Henry and Catharine claim to be from VA.
As you can see, the only name difference is the second sons, Henry and Harrison, and the ages are not exactly the same. On the 1820 Census there were four Lape families living here, Henry, John, Peggy, and Nicholas. I am assuming that these men were all siblings and that Peggy was possibly the widow of a brother.
My grandmother was Mamie Lape from Amanda, Fairfield County, Ohio. Her parents were Monroe Lape and Isabell Miesse. Her grandparents were Maxwell Lape and Caroline, I believe Fausnaught or Fosnaught. I know Monroe belongs to Maxwell and Caroline because he was listed as their two year old son on the 1850 Census. One household away is the household of Henry and Catharine Lape from VA. I am assuming for the time being, that they are Maxwell's parents but not cutting it in stone for now.
From reading about the Lape family of New York, they are not associated with this Lape family.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated. I can be contacted directly through my e-mail.
