Larabee is also an Irish name, with most of the Larabees in NY and VT coming from Ireland.
I have Merritt W. Larabee b. bet 1838-1842 in NY.He marriedMary Unknown, before he was 18 and she 16, as they are found in the household of Jacob Snyder and his wife Elizabeth on the 1860 census. They are in Pittstown, Rensselaer County, NY.Both his parents are listed as being born in NY, her parents in England.
I was given information that I have not verified that Merritt's parents were Jacob Larabee/Laraby and Lydia Awl of Pittstown, Rensselaer Co. NY.
Merritt and Mary had at least two children and possibly a third.Olivia E. Larabee Dec 1864, who married Alfred H. Ayers.A son, David H. Larabee, born abt 1865-66, and the third child, a son, Merritt born about 1881.
Merritt served honorably during the Civil War, on the Union side.
From at least 1869, Merritt lived in NY City, later Manhattan, as he is found in the city directory.I haven't found him on the 1900 or 1910 census yet, but in 1920 he is living in his sister in law's house, Julia Clark in Salem Town, Washington Co. NY.He is a widower, so Mary died sometime between 1881 and 1920.
