I will try to add what I have gathered and maybe we can sort a few things out.
I am quite confident that Elizabeth Ann was a Laraby. Her marriage record has her surname handwritten as "Loraby".The surname Loraby is non-existent, so I'm pretty comfortable with Laraby. Also, as you stated, Elizabeth Killingbeck and Elizabeth Hickman are two different individuals and the surname of Hickman doesn't show up in my database.
Also in my records is the marriage of Saint Joseph Laraby to Annie Miralda Killingbeck, daughter of Charles and Cynthia Ann Herrington.Saint Joseph is the son of Alexander Laraby and Elizabeth Parks.Alexander is the son of Seth and Esther? Laraby.
Now to Charles Killingbeck... This is a little confusing. There are some who believe that there are TWO Charles's.I am not yet convinced of that.I have not yet clearly ascertained that there are two independent Charles on the census - I need to do that to rule out this possibility. The theory is that Willam and George had a much younger brother, Charles, and that Margaret Sophie Andress (possibly a sister to Lora?) was HIS first wife.
Here's what I have on Charles:
Marriage #1 to Margaret "Sophie" Andress Children: Jane, born about 1864 James Arthur, born 12 Oct 1866 Hannah Felicia, born 31 May 1868 Mary Alice, born about 1869 William "Daniel", born 7 Mar 1871
Marriage #2 to Mariah (surname unknown), md 13 Jul 1872 Child: Richard, born about 1878 (this is presumably the Richard on the census that you mentioned, which lends credibility to the argument that this Charles is William and Hannah's son, not George and Dorothy's.)
Marriage #3 (if this all one individual, or marriage #1 if not) to Cynthia Ann Herrington md 25 Feb 1890 Children: Emily Louisa, born 22 Mar 1891 William "John", born 28 Jul 1893 Clarinda ("Clara"), born 13 Sep 1896 Annie Miralda, born 21 Sep 1897 Wesley, born 25 Jan 1901
My feeling is that this is all the same Charles, the son of William and Hannah Slack Killingbeck. There is enough age discrepancy on the census records though, that I am trying to learn more.I have not been able to prove to my satisfaction that the original imigrant ancestors, George and Dorothy, had a son named Charles.
As for the Shaw family... I have that Thomas C. Shaw (evidently Christopher Thomas) married Mary Alice Killingbeck, daughter of Charles and Sophie.I did not have that they had a son James, so I need to do some work there also.
Thanks for the added information.I hope we can somehow clear up the Charlesdilemma.
