Hi Peggy,

I was wondering if you have ever seen the spelling as LARABA in your research. My grgrgrgrandfather was Joseph Laraba who I believe married Josette Larock/Larocque.He was born in Canada in 1795 and died in 1871 in Enosburg, Vermont. They had 6 children who were all born in Vermont(i believe in Highgate).Hester was born in abt 1837, Joseph was born in 1841 and married Emily Williams in Dunham Township, Quebec.Peter was born abt 1841 and married Lucretia Williams in Cowansville, Quebec.Emily was born abt 1845 and married Edwin Spicer in St. Armand East, Canada.John B. was born in 1845 and married Elizabeth Benoit in Vermont.Victoria was born abt 1847 and married Simon Porter in Canada.
John B. Laraba is my direct line, and it appears that he is the only one that remained in Vermont. He and Elizabeth had 6 children in Enosburg, Vermont.George, Mary, Edna, John, Bessie, and David. The funny thing is that George and his family went by the name LARABEE, while the rest of the siblings used the name LARABA.My grandfather always used to say that the LARABA name wasn't original and had been changed. At this point I am stuck at Joseph Laraba, and have been unable to find anything on him except for his death record which really doesn't give much information to help me proceed.I have always thought that our name was probably originally LARABEE, but have been unable to make the connection. If you can shed any light on this, it would be greatly appreciated.Thank you!!
