Sandi - did you know that Martin Lattin published several newspapers while living in Alaska?A friend in Alaska sent the following info:
"It was a very small publication, "Highlights from the McCarthyWeekly News (1918)".It was compiled by Rick and Bonnie Kenyon, McCarthy, PO Box MXY, Glennallen, AK 99588-8998.That address may look funny but it is because McCarthy, Alaska has no mail service, only via Glennallen.
Anyway, in the introductory material I picked up on the following:
In 1916, two newspapers were started in the booming town. The first..only lasted three weeks. The second, The McCarthy Avalanche, did some better.Publisher M. V. Lattin brought 11 issues to print from August through October."
"...in "Historic McCarthy the Town that Copper Built" is a photo, "Laurence Barrett and Marie Lattin, ca 1914" (Alaska State Library) that was on page 43.Then I found back on page 36, "M. V. Lattin, the local station agent for the C. R. & N, W. as US Commissioner with duties as justice of peace."Then on page 48, "Another paper, called the Avalanche, was launchedin late 1916 by M. V. Lattin, the railway depot man."
