I am trying to find a source for John Lattin b. 1790 in VT, and his son, John Lattin b 1823 in Dunham Canada, as having a middle initial "S".
From my research, I have never seen a middle initial "S" for either John Lattin or his son, John Lattin.
John Lattin b 1790 (son of Richard) signed his marriage record as John Lattin.(No middle initial)He bought land in Dunham Canada listed as John Lattin (no middle initial). He witnessed the marriage of Cynthia Jennings and Philip Cross as "John Lattin". He is listed on 1842 and 1851 Dunham Canada census as John Lattin. He is listed on 1860 and 1870 US census in Wisconsin as John Lattin. He is listed on MN state census as John Lattin in 1875. None of these census records list him with a middle initial.
His son, John Lattin, is never listed on US census records with a middle initial. On the 1890 Fox Lake township Wisconsin map, his name is listed as J. Lattin, with no middle initial (even though other people have two initials for their land). When he died in MN, his obit and death certificate gives his name as John Lattin with no middle initial.
There IS a John Lattin on Richard Lattin's pension record who has a middle initial "S", but I believe he was a son of Phenes Lattin. That John S. Lattin was born in May 183_ (I can't read the day or the year but the decade is 1830 something, and I assume it was after 1831, since he is listed after another child, Sarah Ann who was born 6th Feb 1831)
If you have a source for the middle initial "S" for either of these two men named John Lattin, I would be most grateful if you would post it here, or contact me, so I can correct my records.
