When I first started digging into my roots I was told that we were orginally from France and were Hugenauts. I later found out that the Laux/Louks/etc. were dropped from the Hugenaut Society for lack of proof to the French connection. I have read part of the argument that the name is German in origin and don't know if I complettly agree. For the Du Laux French spelling the "x" is silent as in Faux Pax. making it more like Low. If during the ST Barthlowmew Day Massacure members of the Du Laux family who fled to the Palintate could read and write, The Germans may well have pronounced the "x". This is my own theory with about as much support as the straw house of the three little pigs fame.
