Let me share what I have on the LaVanway/Pelkey connection. 1910 Census - Barre town (Websterville) Ephrain Pelkey is with wife Lucy.He is 49 yrs of age and was born in NY.Lucy is 47 also b. NY. Their children are; Wilma, Edward, Romie, Dora and Cora, all b. NY. Another son Charles is listed with Melvina. He is 22 and b. NY. In 1920, however Charles is listed with wife, Evelyn and children, Clifford, Clara and Ruby.Evelyn and Children b. Vt. VERMONT STATE RECORDS;Melvina LaVanway married Romie Pelkey on 9 Feb 1937, in Duxbury, Vt.Melvina's father is Westly LaVanway.Mother is Nina, both born in Chazy, NY. Romie and Melvina's son, Guy Pelkey died on 7 May 1998 in Waterbury, Vt.He was born in Burlington, Vt. in 1941.In 1967 he married May Ann Chamberlin. His obit. can be found by using Google/Guy Pelkey.
I believe Westly LaVanway is actually Wesley LaVarnway. son of Hiram and Margaret LaVarnway from Chazy, NY. I found a Minnie LaVarnway in Barre town (Websterville) married to Joseph Mayo.A younger brother, William LaVarnway is living with them. (Census 1920).Her YOB matches Hiram's daughter Minnie.Lucy's YOB matches Ruth LaVarnway +/-. (Census 1880, Chazy, NY.) Both families are using the names of Cora and Augustus.
We know Hiram's parents are Anthony and Elizabeth. Anthony being the son of Toussaint LaVanway/LaVarnway/Livernois.
More investigation needs to be done to prove this theory.I suggest perhaps, contacting Guy Pelkey's children.
The Henry in your article is my uncle Henry Alonzo LaVanway and his first wife Hazel Lamson.I expect they were visiting her parents.I know of no connection between Henry and the Pelkeys.Henry's connection/common ancestor with Hiram would be Toussaint.Hope this is of some help.
