I am a great-grandson of Amaziah Lawing. My grandmother was Jewel Catherine Lawing (born December 13, 1896 in Johnson Station, TX and died in May 1958).Jewel worked in her sister Emma's boarding house in Arlington and also taught school in nearby Handley, TX.While working in Emma's boarding house, she met my grandfather, Herman Sims Weiss of Nocona, TX.They had three daughters, Dorothy Jean (b. 1925, d. 1996), Peggy Nann (b. 1926, d. 2001) and Billye Catherine (b. 1931).Billye is my mother.
We grew up knowing Aunt Emma, who lived until the late 1970's. For some reason Emma and my grandmother, Jewel, hit it off well and had a great relationship with each other, but had no real relationship with any other of Amaziah's and Sara Jane's children.
we are now trying to piece the family tree back together and my mother remains curious about other cousins that might still be out there.Any information or contact would be appreciated.
ALSO...we have a picture of all seven Lawing girls taken when my grandmother was around the age of 10 (which would have been around 1906).We can scan and e-mail the image if anyone is interested.
