HELP!!! Can anyone help me with what sources have been used to determine who the children of Burrell Lay and Leannah Newell were? Was there a will, land records or what? They were listed in J.Gilbert Lay's book.
For quite a few years now I have been researching my great-great grandfather, Harrison Lay. From reliable sources (primary and copies of primary sources), I knew that he was born in Pulaski Co KY in the early 1820's, married Susan Woolsey there in 1839, and migrated to Lincoln Co MO about 1854. He joined the Confederate army and in 1865 married my great-great grandmother, Nancy Mack Weathers who had previously been married to Napoleon Bonaparte Donaldson.
All of the above I am about 100% sure is true and correct. However, I have not been able to determine with 100% satisfaction who Harrison Lay's parents were. There were many couples in Pulaski Co who were the right age.
According to information on the internet from J. Gilbert Lay's book, a Harrison Lay was the son of Burrell Lay and Leannah Newell. J. Gilbert Lay says this Harrison Lay married Susan Woolsey.
After years of research, I just recently looked up my Harrison's death certificate. (He died in 1909 in Lauderdale County, Alabama.) Harrison's death certificate says his parents' names were HARRISON and PEGGY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Since Harrison was from Kentucky and had no other relatives from Kentucky in Alabama with him, I suppose that the informant for the death certificate could have been wrong, possibly not knowing for sure his parents' names, but this is really throwing me for a loop!
HELP!!!! Does anyone know of any evidence that there was ANOTHER Harrison that was old enough to be the father of my Harrison? He would have had to have been born about 1806 or earlier.
The 1810 Rockingham County, NC census lists Burrell Lay as having 3 children under the age of ten, one boy and two girls. Could that boy be Harrison Lay, father of my Harrison Lay?
Also, in census records, MY Harrison stated that both his parents were born in NC, but Burrell and Leannah were born in VA. If my Harrison's father was another Harrison, son of Burrell Lay and Leannah Newell, then the older Harrison would have been born in NC! It would fit!
And maybe J. Gilbert Lay was correct when he said that Burrell Lay and Leannah Newell had a son named Harrison, but incorrect in that that son Harrison didn't marry Susan Woolsey. Maybe Harrison, son of Burrell, married Peggy and had a son, Harrison (my Harrison) who married Susan Woolsey.
If anyone has any light to shed on this mystery for me, please respond here on GenForum or email me! I'd surely appreciate it. JeaneneD@hotmail.com or JeaneneDan@aol.com. Thanks!!!
