I should have explained my purpose and take the opportunity to do so now.
I am compiling a biographical register of the officers fo the Confederate States Navy for publication. Charles E. Lea served with the rank of Pilot, CS Navy. This is what the US Navy Department 1931 compilation of the Registers of the Confederate States Navy has to say about Charles:
Born in -----. Appointed from -----. Appointed Pilot, April 4, 1863. Served on the Steamers STONO and CHICORA, Charleston Station, 1863-1864.
The STONO was a wooden gunboat, but CHICORA was one of the sloped, iron-plated casemated rams built for harbor defense by the CS Government. It looked very much like the illustartion we have see of the ironclad MERRIMAC, which fought the MONITOR at the Battle of Hampton Roads in 1862.
The entries for each of the officers in my work will consist of the date and place of birth of the subject, the names of his parents, his prewar endeavors, his postwar endeavors, the name of his wife, date and place of marriage, the names of his children, the date and place of death, and the place of interment. I am hoping to include a copy of the subject's image with each entry.
If you can provide any or all of the above, I will be delighted and will name you as the source in the work.
