I am quite concerned about the circulation of Gloria Kerns CD in its present form. There are many problems which I wish everyone should be aware of.On the disk there are two folders. The 1st is the "Genealogy Report. It has 1289 pages and and in itself contain as far as I am concerned over 40 errors. These consist of wrong places of birth for my family, wrong dates, and a major error in that the surnames of 3 of my step grandchildren were changed from MAIN to LASHER.Pat Smith has already found many errors in her family. I question the need for the last page which is labeled "End Notes".The other problem is there is no index. It is very difficult to find people without scanning a major portion of the file.Once you find an individual then it becomes easier to go back and foreward on the line. When looking for someone else in another line then you have to start all over by scanning the folder.See the comment about an "Index" near the end of this message.
I have been quoted as supplying information but was never contacted by Gloria as to correctness of the material in Thelma's Book (1991), nor any updating of the files. My name was omitted from the researchers list in the second folder.
In the 2nd folder named " Leasure Book" I find other significanrt flaws.ages 1-23 are purely introductory. There are no pages numbered 24-1367.Why are they not in the Index and if they exist what are the contents ?Pages 1368 - 1402 have pictures, but there is no indication to where they belong. There is no indication where these people may be found in the Genealogy or Descendants Chart.
In Thelma's book she lists Abraham birth abt 1695 and then his children A1, A2, etc. which makes the children generation 1, where as they should have been B-1, B-2 etc. On the disk there isn't even a mention off of the 1stAbraham (1695).Abraham b.1712 is agai shown as the 1st generation,To make matters worse she completely failes to show any information about his brothers(Peter, George, Joseph)or their descendants. On Pages 1604-1726 "Family Maps"all the people are listed by County, date date of birth, then State. There are 122 pages which could be better served by changing the order or removing this portion of the file from the disk.It appears to be interesting but of what value.
Finally, pages 1754-2009are labeled "Index of Individuals".This is an Index that probably should be placed in the 1st folder "Genealogy Report" as it should be the source for one to easily search for an individual in that report. This brings up another big problem. The numbers attached to a name seem to have no correlation with any charts. For example, the numbers listed by my name are 526, 846,1157, 1258 & 1635. They do not match any page number (page791) or the number assigned to me (#1916) in the Genealogy Folder..
Before you use this disk, I wanted to make you aware of its short comings and hazard of using incomplete and erroneous data. I would appreciate any comments you may have.
