Nicholas and Frances only had 7 children. James b. 1788, John b. 1802, Sarah b. 1804, Mary Jane b. 1806, William b. 1810, Frances b. 1815-1819 and Alfred was the youngest b. 1820. Tom belonged to Alfred. There were several Nancy's in the various families. John and Alfred each had daughter's named Nancy. Nicholas Leathers was born in Orange Co. VA and was probably the son of Nicholas Leathers of Orange Co. The older Nicholas had about 8 children in 1785. To date we have John b. 1769, Charles M. b. 1770-1772, Sarah a spinster in 1794 (over 21), Nicholas Jr. b. abt 1774-1775, Morgan b. bef 1779, Jonathan b. 1781-1788, and William b. abt 1784. The boys came to Kentucky about 1796 and from the tax records lived together for the first year. They all settled in central Kentucky, raised big families except Morgan and Jonathan who moved on to Indiana. In the 1830's William went to Illinois and Charles went to Indiana. Sarah married William Bickers in Orange Co. They didn't move to KY until after his father died. She died in her late 30's or early 40's.
The older Nicholas of Orange Co. VA was probably the son of John and Sarah Leathers of Spotsylvania Co. VA. This John died in 1765.
Farther back is still pretty much a theory. John's father may have been John Leathers of Lancaster co. VA who died about 1712. John of Lancaster Co. was the son of Nicholas and Mary Leathers. Nicholas died about 1682 in Lancaster Co. and Mary remarried to Richard Curtis. Curtis died and she married a third time to William Brush. Mary died about 1709.
