Charles Lechner "St. Claire" b. abt 1866, acrobat
I'm looking for any information on one of my husband's great great grandfathers, Charles Lechner, a dead end in his tree.
According to information from Charles' son and from his daughter's birth record, he was born in about 1866 in Ohio and he died in 1902, though I don't know where.
Family lore has it that he belonged to a circus, and his daughter's birth record lists his occupation as "acrobat."The family story is that he was either kidnapped by or ran away with a circus.I would like to find out if there is any truth to this.
His son also wrote that he used the stage name "Charles St. Clair" or "St. Claire" with an "e."In fact, both of his children were born under the name "St. Clair," but later took on the "Lechner" name.He was married to Maud A. Porter and his children were Leslie St. Clair (Lechner, my husband's great grandfather) and Marie St. Clair (later Gladys Lechner). He may have gone by "Chas" instead of "Charles."
Other clue: I have found the 1880 census for Wapakoneta, Auglaize, Ohio, which lists a Charles Lechner with his parents and siblings who would be about the same age as the one I'm looking for.No way of knowing if it is him, though.
Thank you for any help you can provide!
