Hello Bud, THANK YOU so much for sharing the information on the "Loving Remembrance" plaque you found. Kevin and I think the "CATHARINE EVENS" given is his ancestor, Catharine, "Kate" (Ledwell) Evans, who died on May 1, 1897, in childbirth with her second child, Joseph Evans. Kevin e-mailed you earlier today and we will e-mail you with more information in the future. Trying to place the PAYNE family members on the plaque, I'm wondering if they could be the parents and siblings of LUCINDA, "LUCY" (PAYNE) LEDWELL (b. 1875; d. 1933), wife of James Richard Ledwell of Massachusetts. He was the brother of Catharine (Ledwell) Evans. James and Lucy were married in Newfoundland in 1894, and then came to Massachusetts ca. 1895-1897. Do any of those names ring a bell?
Who were your Great Grandparents?
About the other two LEDWELLS on the plaque: 1) JOSEPH LEDWELL who died at age 9 - He could POSSIBLY be Catharine (Ledwell) Evans and James Richard Ledwell's brother Joseph, or "Josie," who was born in 1867.I don't know when he died, but that it was in Georgetown, P. E. I.We will need further research to confirm which Joseph it is on the plaque.. "Joseph Ledwell, son of Michael Ledwell & Elin Ryan, baptised 18 Aug 1867," in Argentia RC Church (from Argentia RC Church records, from Rosalind Lannon Hanrahan. The Ledwell family moved from Newfoundland to P. E. I. ca. 1870, according to Dennis Roberts. If this is the same Joseph born in 1867, then he would have been nine and died around 1875, which was about the same year Capt. Joseph Ledwell died at sea. 2) CAPT. JOSEPH LEDWELL who died at sea on Nov. 5, 1875, (age 33 yrs., 5 mos.) - This could POSSIBLY be Catharine (Ledwell) Evans and brother James Richard Ledwell's Uncle Joseph, who died at sea.He and three of his brothers (Mike, John and Richard) all died at sea, sometime after 1870. However, the Capt. Joseph Ledwell on the plaque would have been born around 1842, which is later than the birth date I have for him of Abt. 1828. Catharine (Ledwell) Evans' father, Capt. Michael, "Mike," Ledwell, was the youngest of the ten children of James Sr. and Anna (Power) Ledwell, and he was born Abt. 1840, in Newfoundland.
