I am seeking some help by those researchers who are more familiar with the Lee families than I that were in South Carolina prior to 1800. So far I have two different Lee lines in South Carolina. One line arrived in the Union County area about 1780. My understanding is that this line comes from William Lee IV of Virginia. The second line I am more interested in and have little but interesting information on. It starts in 1746 when Richard Henry Lee settled on three hundred acres of land near Stateburg in the High Hills of Santee. He married and had one son who received his estate lands as his inheritance. This son as I have been told was named Anthony Furman Lee but in a copy printed of his Last Will and Testament it is signed as Anthony Wm. Lee. Wm means William so I am inclined to beleive Anthony William Lee. He was baptised into the Baptist faith at High Hills of Santee Baptist Church. Anthony was born at his fathers home about 1750 just four years after his father Richard Henry Lee settled there. Anthony would become an officer under the command of General Sumter in the southern campaign of the Revolutionary War. He received from the State of South Carolina after his service on April 4, 1785 approximately 216 acres that tied into his father's 300 acres. Anthony married Jemmima ????-Lee. They had two sons, Timothy Lee and William Lee. They also had four daughters;Ann Lee-Spears, Mary Lee-Jones who married William Britton Jones I, Elizabeth Lee-Nix who married Charles C. Nix and Martha Lee. I do not know any more about Martha or her marital status. Timothy inherited all of the lands of his father Anthony Wm. Lee and became a cotton farmer. He ferried his merchandise down the Wateree and Congaree Rivers into the Santee then down to Charleston. Timothy Lee eventually started a Cotton Store or Company and spent his time in Charleston after the planting and harvesting. He married Maria Howell McCord in 1813 and in time they moved and retired to a home in Richland County, SC.,... My understanding is that a Colonel George Washington Lee was a grandson of Anthony Wm. Lee. Col. George W. Lee married Susan ann Dozier. I do not know if he is the son of Timothy or William Lee. Col. George W. and wife, Susan A. Dozier-Lee had a son who was christened with the name of Richard Henry Lee but used his mother's maiden name and was referred and called Richard Dozier Lee born on August 5, 1850 in Sumter, Sumter County, SC.,.. and died on January 20, 1922 in Sumter, Sumter County, SC.,. Back to the daughters of Anthony Wm. Lee and Jemmima ????-Lee particularly Mary Lee-Jones that married William Britton Jones I. Mary Lee and William B. Jones I children and grandchildren are well documented to this day. If anyone has more knowledge concerning where Richard Henry Lee of the High Hills of Santee may have originated from (besides the old stand-by line of; "his mother") please let me know at my e-mail;email@example.comThanks...!!!!
