I am researching a Williams family, whose daughter, Naomi, married James Leffingwell about 1850 in Crawford Co., Pennsylvania. If anyone has any information on these families, I'd appreciate hearing from you.The International Genealogical Index at www.familysearch.org has information that indicates that James was James Ebenezer Leffingwell, the son of Andrew Leffingwell and an unknown wife.It appears that this family came to the Meadville, PA, area around 1817/1822.Naomi Williams was a sister of my great-great-grandmother, Susan or Susannah Williams. Their parents were Nathan Williams, Jr. (1765 - 1851) and Sarah Jane "Sally" Huff (1786/7 - 1870/9).
The 1850 census of Woodcock Borough, Crawford Co., PA, p. 338, 1372/1372, shows James Leffingwell, age 24, Merchant, born in PA, with Naomi, 24 PA.James's brother Almon, 18, Clerk, PA, was living with them.
The 1860 census of Mead Twp., Crawford Co., PA,(Meadville P.O), p. 351, 2667/2549, shows Jennett Leffingwell, age 1 F Penn., in the household of Mary and Ansel M. Gordon [Gorton].Mary was a sister of Naomi. It appears that James and Naomi died before 1860, leaving one child, Jennett (Janet?, Jeannett?).I could not find Jennet Leffingwell in any later censuses. She was not with Mary Gorton in the 1870 census.
