My husband is a direct descendent of Solomon Leffler. His mother Elizabeth Leffler Howard died Dec., 1st, 2005 at the age of 93. Her father was Charles H. Leffler, born 1868. His father was Daniel G. Leffler born Aug 13, 1837 in Fairfield Ohio to Solomon Leffler and in 1851 came with his parents to Putnam County Ohio - the town of Leipsic.D.G. Leffler responded to the first call of PRes. Lincoln for volunteers, and in April 1861, became a soldier of the 21st Ohio Volunteer Infantry and was with General Cox in his march up the Kanawha river. After his term of inlistment in the 21st was closed he reinlisted in the 49th O.V.I, under the command of Colonel Gibson.
I have inherited all the family history - pictures, letters, marriage liscences, school records etc. It is all in a jumble in boxes and that is my next project to sort it all out.
I am also interested in any information about Solomon Leffler - his family before him.
Solomon Leffler shows up in the 1880 census for Putnam County Ohio. At that time he was 72.
The Lefflers at one time were very influential people in this town of Leipsic Ohio. D.G. Leffler as on the first town council. He was also very active in the First Lutheran Church. He and his wife gave the huge stained glass window and at the bottom it says, "Father Leffler, Mother Leffler"
More information is coming when I can get to it! I just joined this forum today and already am starting to get addicted!!
