The birth of Johannes Lehri to Johannes and Catherina is in the records of Bethlehem (Steltz) Union Church, Codorus Twp., York Co. PA. on May 2, 1812(or 1814).He was baptized on 7/24/1812 (or 1814).Sponsors were Johannes Schmidt and Elisabetha. I believe this to be the John of whom you speak. This church is in the area where the Leahy/Lehigh's lived.John (b. 1782) is buried in Carroll Co., Md. not far from this church and a Simon Lehigh is buried in the church's cemetery. So John's (b.1812-1814)mother's name would be Catherina. It is possible that her maiden name was Schmidt.
As to whether Lehigh is Irish or German? It could be Irish but it is not a slam dunk! The Lehigh's seem to be associated with Germanic folks and did not attend Catholic churches.Nor were they normally buried in Catholic cemeteries.
