LECKLIDERs of OH

Hi Audrey:
My name is Neal Lecklider. You were probably wondering if there were any Leckliders left in the world, right? There are still several in Ohio.
You're somewhat correct about the Lecklider name being an altered version of this surname. Actually the original spelling of my family name would probably look more like "Leichleiter". I would imagine that we're all distant relatives of the Leichliter family somewhere along the line. Read my note to Jerry in the Lichlyter family forum if you want to learn some basics about my family's history. Your Creager families have the same problems with spelling changes and errors in print as my family.
I also saw your note at familyhistory.com looking for Leckliders that married into the Creager family. My Great Great Great Great Grandfather (Ludwig or Lewis) married Catherine Creager in Frederick County, Maryland (not Ohio) in 1790. They moved to Montgomery County, Ohio around 1807. His son, Jacob, married Charlotta Creager in 1825. He was one of the founders of David's Church which is the subject of your website. These men are my direct descendants. Charlotta Creager is not my Great Great Great Grandmother. She and Jacob had three children before she died. My Great Great Great Grandmother was Catherine Willey--Jacob's second wife and the mother of my Great Great Grandfather William Calvin Lecklider.
Other members of the Lecklider family married into the Creager line as well. It seems that the Leckliders and Creagers may have migrated to Ohio from Maryland together. I can send you additional information about my family if you would like, but it would just take me some time. A good source of information if you can find it is The History of Darke County Ohio published in 1880 by Wh. Beers and Company of Chicago and later reproduced (1976) by Unigraphic, Inc. of Evansville, Indiana. It's probably in a genealogy library near you.
I'm not really a professional researcher, but if you're looking for a paritcular Lecklider "link" to your Creager family I might be able to help you out.--Neal
