Hello Angela My name is Gwyn Hartley from Leegomery Telford Shropshire England U.K. I have been researching the history of Leegomery (which in days gone by was part of Wellington parish.) I came across a reference in an old book entitled “The History of Wellington” by R.M Baxter 1949,which under the Amorial bearings of Local families section reads the following – - Lee (Leigh)Roger of Leegomery and Thomas Lee his son, Lord Mayor of London 1558. - Arms – Gules on a cross between four unicorns heads erased or, five roundels azure. The arms sound a bit double Dutch but that is the way it is written in the book. I am sure this is your Thomas Leigh as I found on the web that Thomas married Alice Barker his father was Roger of Wellington. I did a search on Google.co.uk Sir Thomas Leigh and it came up with loads of hits for your Thomas. Their was even one for Pocahontas whose grand daughter Hannah Rolfe married a Sir Thomas Leigh inabout 1639 as Pocahontas was in London for a while and a lot of the Leighs were in London it is a long shot but as Your Thomas had a son and grandson called Sir Thomas it could be possible that one of these could of married Pocahontas’s granddaughter as the years would be about right. Back to the google search ( you should try it via the google search as there are some very useful hits) Another hit was “Elizabeth Ashow” which gives several references to Thomas and Stoneleigh and the Leigh family.
If you find any info on The Leegomery/ Wellington side of the leighs let me know or if you have a picture of the Leigh coat of arms could I have a copy. Hope this will be of some help to you. All the Best, Gwyn.
