In the last year i was recovering old family information about the Leighton Family in Chile. Now i have a lot of information and i want to expose some relevant facts here: Note: In Chile we use two surnames, the father surname first and the mother surname second.
The first Leighton of my family that came to Chile was Thomas Leighton, surgeon, born in Dundee around 1790. He was friend of John Miers (the botanist), and came with him to Chile to serve in the Lord Cochrane Army. Thomas arrived in may-jun of 1819 to Valparaiso, Chile. In 1826, Thomas and John Miers made a trip from Chile to Argentina, publishing their journey in the book "Travels in Chile and La Plata". Thomas married to Angela Marta Frederick Winton, his sons was Tomas, Francisco and Rosa. Thomas had another son with uknown mother, called Juan Jose (or John Joseph), Juan was sent to Dundee to study, but he died in 1838 at 16 years old, he is buried in the Howf cementery of Dundee. Thomas died in 1837 in Valparaiso at 47 years old.
A brother of Thomas came to Chile maybe in 1820(?), his name was Robert Francis Leighton. He married to Maria Alvarez having at least one son called Eduardo Leighton Alvarez. Later in 1845, Robert went to Liverpool(?) and married to Elizabeth Rickard, having 3 sons, Alexander Robert, Charles and Robert William. I found documents that confirm that this tree sons of Robert was living for a while in Argentina. Robert Francis died in Valparaiso in unknown date. Thomas and Robert are buried in the Disidents Cementery of Valparaiso.
After the Thomas's retirement of the army, he work as a doctor and apothecary in a drugstore of his own in Valparaiso. After he died, the drugstore was managed by his brother Robert.
I'm trying now to find the names of the parents of Thomas and Robert, but exist at least 3 familys with sons called Thomas and Robert that was living in the 1790 years (familysearch.org queryes). Some unconfirmed data, related Thomas Leighton with Fitzpatrick (or Kilzpatrick) and Lamont family, but i no have any probe of that. If somebody have any information related to this searching, that be really apreciated.
