I have records for a Charles Leighton, born in Valparaiso in about 1850. In the 1871 UK census he is noted as a boarder. He married Elizabeth Mary Ann Whannell FitzPatrick and is noted living in Liscard Cheshire in the 1881 and 1891 UK censuses. His occupation was a commossioning agent for Chile, and later a Chilean Merchant. He had three children. There is a record of a Charles Leighton departing from Chile and docking at Liverpool on 22 August 1892 sailing on the Iberia. This is the last news I have of him. In the 1901 census Eliza Leighton is said to be a widow, running a fishmongers store in London helped by her son Charles A T Leighton. He died shortly afterwards aged 20. I have ordered a death certificate to find out more. No evidence of a death notice for the father in the UK. Did he die in Chile or During a ship passage?I know nothing about the ancesters of Robert and Thomas as I come in from the FitzPatrick side.
