Cindy My name is Charlie Lemley. I have some information on the Lemley name that is taken from a book by J.B. Lemley.
The name Lemley, originally Lumley, is an Americanization of an ancient British surname. It is generally believed that the progenitor of the family was one who lived at the town of Lumly, County of Durham, England, and took his name there-from. It is also possible, however, that in some cases, that the name was of Italian derivation as one bunch of the Lumley or Lomly family went into England about the beginning of the sixteenth centry from Italy. Johannas Lemle & Michael Lomle, came to the U.S., on the ship Duke of Wirtemberg, Oct 20, 1752 Frome Rotterdam. Thes Two are thought to be Brothers as the name Became Lemley, soon after they came to the U.S.Charlie Lemley
