unfortunately i don't have a maiden name for Sarah Leonard.i ran down a Stanley surname rabbit trail as Sarah and John live with the W. C. Stanleys in Angelina Co., Texas, 1870 census.i was able to get in contact with some Stanley descendents and it didn't seem that Sarah was related to the Stanleys.although, they had my John in their records that he had married one of the Stanley girls.this i could not validate at all.
i don't know anything about the Flanders or Georgia location.you know how census records are, it could have actually been Florida or Georgia.but the one census has it spelled out Flanders, and the other Georgia (the country).
Sarah's birth year should be about 1825, with son John about 1845.
i have no records about Sarah by 1870.don't know whether she marries or dies.the last i have of her is in Angelina County, Texas.and i know that John marries my grgrandmother, Henrietta Slatter 7.20.1874 in same county.
John's sons are born:John W. 1877, James C. 1.22.1880 and my grandfather Will 9.20.1884.son John dies 1883 (?) and John father dies 1888 (?)
oral history has it that the elder John and son John die in Henderson County, Texas from pneumonia and appendicitis.i believe that they were there as a family living with or visiting Henrietta's sister and family, the Worshams.
after their deaths, Henrietta and the remaining two younger sons travel by wagon to Coryell County, Texas.i have good records regarding Henrietta and her sons from this point on.
back to Sarah Leonard.she receives the Confederate Indigent Family Fund money when in Angelina County, Texas.her name is spelled Lenord in this document.
this is a pretty good synopsis of what i do know.i have tracked John's property through 1860's to 1880's, he is in Angelina County and Henderson County during this time.i seem to come from good Texas stock, not "rich" Texas stock.
i am fascinated by this family, and i hope i have you captivated by now, too!i need your insight!!!thank you!
