I am trying to trace my 2G Grandfather John Levy and 2G Grand Mother Hannah Crawcour. The information that I have is as follows:
ADELAIDE LEVY, one of my maternal Great Grandmothers.
Details from birth certificate: When and where born: 13 October 1847 9 Fashion Street, Christchurch Father: John Levy, Fruiterer Mother: Hannah Levy, formerly Crawcour Registration District: Whitechapel Sub-district: Spitalfields County of Middlesex
Details from the certificate of Adelaide Levy's marriage to Charles William Austin: Marriage solemnised at the Parish Church, in the Parish of St. Martin in the Fields, in the County of Middlesex When Married: 18 April 1871 Age: full age Condition: Spinster Rank or Profession:- Adelaide's Residence at the time of Marriage: Panton St. Father's Name and Surname: John Levy Rank or Profession of Father: Fruiterer One of the Witness was as follows: "The Mark X of J. Levy" leading me to beleive that her father was illiterate.
I found a "John Levy, Fruiterer" in the 1881 Census. If it is the same person he must have remarried as his wife is now Emma, not Hannah, and is twenty years his junior. The older of the sons, Isaac, was also born in Spitalfields, Middlesex England. Isaac is also a Fruiterer.
