I am nearly finished with a book I have written about the history of Wichita covering the period 1870-1874. M.W. Levy gained prominence during that period as a partner with J.M. Steele in the real estate and insurance business and I believe that later he went into banking. I've surmised that he was also a leading citizen of the town and an investor in numerouscivic projects. What little information I have about his pre-Wichita days indicates that he may have come to Wichita from Denver. In particular, I hope that you might have some additional details regarding his early activities in Wichita which you might be willing to share with me. Any insight into his personality, family life, likes and dislikes, et cetera, would help me to describe him in more accurate detail. And I'd be pleased to have a copy of an early photo of him that you may have inherited.
On a personal note, when I was a boy living in Wichita in the 1940's I took piano lessons from a Mr. and Mrs. Levy who lived on the east side of town. Mr. Levy had studied piano in Europe with the great Artur Rubenstein, and in his own right he was an accomplished pianist. I was told that Rubenstein consented to give a recital in Wichita on occasion only because it provided an opportunity to see his old friend, Mr. Levy. Would he be related to M.W. Levy and your family?
