I noticed your post on genforum regarding your ancestor, Chapman Levy Barrow. I have the same problem you do, in that I have an ancestor named Chapman Levy Hall with no evidence of any Levy marrying into my family. I began thinking yesterday that perhaps he was named for a prominent person without being related (since I also have ancestors named for George Washington, Henry Harrison and Jefferson without being related to them), and I found that there was a Col. Chapman Levy, a prominent Jewish attorney and colonel in the war of 1812. I have no idea why my ancestor, an Indian, would be named for him, but since the Welch family name is common amonth the Cherokee of North Carolina, maybe there is an Indian connection we are missing. I did find a website of Chickasaw letters where a Chickasaw man was getting Col. Levy to speak on his behalf. Do you have any information on this?
