You're missing about 20 years Peyton spent in Anderson County, TN(his childhood). And how sure are you about the year of birth? I have 97(now) but 98 or 99 most probably. By the way, his whole family moved to Anderson Co about the time he was born. How sure are you it was NC, not SC or Virginia?(as to his place of birth).
The name change came because of some French influence in MO. Look at a map of MO and you see it covered with French landmarks. Probably the census takers in 1850 were French, or assumed a French herritage there in MO. However, his siblings spellings remained lewallen or simular. Only Peyton changes to Lieuallen. Maybe it was his wife, Jemima, who influenced the change.
