Can anyone tell me what actual documentation exists regarding Abraham Lewis (d. 1802, Loudoun Co., VA).For instance, you'll find numerous sites online that state Abraham Lewis and his wife Rebecca are the Abraham Lewis and Rebecca Davis who were married in Philadelphia in 1744 (in a Presbyterian Church), but I've never seen any proof offered beyond the theory that was first published by Michael L. Cook in his *Pioneer Lewis Families* (1984, vol. 4, page 792).Has anyone ever actually found any sort of contemporary documents that would substantiate this or is it still based (as I recall) mostly on the fact that members of the Butcher family (who later married into the Lewis family in Virginia) were from the same region?
Likewise I'd love to hear from anyone who believes that they can document that Abraham Lewis (d. 1802, Loudoun Co., VA) was descended from Glode Lewis (d. 1718, Dorchester Co., MD).Again, I've seen this theory on several sites, but I've never seen any actual proof offered. The 1790 Census of Dorchester Co, MD shows an Abraham Lewis living there...
The claim that Abraham Lewis (d. 1802, Loudoun Co., VA) was the son of Abraham and Mary Morgan Lewis (of PA) doesn't stand up after Chester Co., PA's records are examined.
Finally there is yet another theory that I've found online which links Abraham Lewis (d. 1802, Loudoun Co., VA) to a John Lewis of Hanover Co., VA?Has anyone investigated that theory?
Perhaps if we all put our research together and share information we can make some headway in settling the identity of Abraham Lewis (d. 1802, Loudoun Co., VA).
