Sorry I can't be more specific at the moment. Just moved and had many things stolen, including family papers. Great loss to me. Working from memory. Not to brag, but I'm the one who discovered the correct Lide genealogy over 15 years ago. Lide: 1. Robert Lide, d. 1722-24 (will proved), Charles City CO., VA Also owned land in James City Co. along Chickahominy River. m. Elizabeth Children: 1. John Lide (sp. Loyde in some records) 2. Sarah, m. Joseph Wade, a neighbor whose father was second husband of Mary Duke, widow of Thomas Duke (below)
2. John Lide/Loyde, d. 1741/2 (will proved), Bertie Co., NC m. ca. 1728/9 Sarah Duke, b. ca. 1710, James City Co., VA children: 1. John, b. 1730 2. Thomas, b. 1732 3. Robert, b. 1734 (name spelled Loyde in wife's Bible) 4. Elizabeth, birth order unknown
Duke: 1. Thomas Duke m. Mary (possibly Barham) 2. Col. Henry Duke, the Councilor, d. winter of 1714 m. Elizabeth (referred to in Wm. Byrd II's dairy as "his old Countess." She outlived him. Can't recall all children, remember Henry, a daughter who married William Byrd II, Thomas, Edward 3. Thomas Duke, d. bef. 1729, James City Co., VA m. Elizabeth Marston, will written April, proved Dec. 1729, Charles City Co., VA Elizabeth's father Thomas Marston, d. James City Co., VA. Brother William was Sheriff of Charles City Co., VA. Children: 1. Susannah 2. Sarah, m. John Lide 3. Mary, m. John Crawford 4. Marston
Still trying to work out Marstons. Thomas Marston's wife possibly Rebecca Green. He would have been her 2nd husband. She is descended from Thomas "the seagull" Green. Old genealogy back to 1500s. Notes: FoundRobert Lide, Captain of the ship Barbara ca. 1668-9. Also a Ro. Lide who owned land in "Ye Maine" before 1690. After John Lide's death in NC, Sarah sold the family homestead and all animals. Don't know if she went back to VA. Descriptions of my ancestor, Thomas Lide, say he was educated in "the church," which probably means Anglican church school. Don't know if there were any in NC at that time. In 1855, the Lide boys sold the remaining VA and NC land and moved to SC with their uncle and aunt, John and Mary Crawford and their son Thomas Crawford. Not sure sister Elizabeth Lide ever married. Found her in John's household and then in her own with another female relative whose name I've forgotten. Does this help? Would love to hear from anyone who finds more info.
