Hi Ann,
Thanks for posting! We share great-great-great Grandparents!I believe that makes us fourth cousins!
Most of my information about the Liebmann ancestry comes from the Brown County Library (downtown Green Bay) Local History room.
About Louis N. Liebmann, I have this information:
born 29 May 1828. 1880 census indicates he was born in Schwartzburg, as were his parents, Christian M.(born 1799? died 7 Dec 1870?) and Elizabeth Catherine (nee Pfeifer, born 1800 died 12 Nov 1873) Liebmann.
Christian and Elizabeth are buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, east side of Green Bay, check under "Straubel"; their daughter Christine married Fred Straubel and they are all buried together, as I understand from records.
Louis immigrated in 1853 to New York, then to Green Bay where Franz was located, having immigrated two years earlier (and I believe the parents Christian and Elizabeth immigrated with Franz, but not certain).
Louis, brother Frank and father Christian went into the fishing business out of Washington Harbor in Door County (I think that's Washington Island)and were prosperous.Louis and his parents then farmed in Preble township (now an east-side section of Green Bay)in Brown County and lived there the rest of his life.
Louis married Christina Opstfelder (family says her last name was Hopsfieldsfelter)26 June 1861 (her parents and Lutheran? church as yet unresearched)and they had three children, as you know, Edmund F., Ida and Emma.
Louis died on his farm (which he'd cleared from forest land)5 February 1886 and is buried at Woodlawn Cemetery.
Most of this info is taken from a book at the Local History room of Brown Co. Library called "Commemorative Biographical Record of the Counties of Brown, Kewaunee and Door, Wisconsin," published 1895 (pg. 215-216) entry for Edmund F. Liebmann.Call numbers are : R/977/.56/C73.
Your great-grandmother Emma Duteau's Liebmann siblings, Edmund and Ida:
Edmund born 11 Oct 1862 in Preble, died 3 Dec 1922, married Elizabeth Larschied, dau. of Anton Larschied and Gertrude Basten, on 10 May 1887.Their children were: CHRISTINA E.(b. 7 Dec 1887 called "Tina", married Sophus Nelson)and they had two children: daughter Ivyl and son Marvin Nelson, and JULIA L. (b. 31 Nov 1889 d. 6 Apr 1980, unmarried)and IRENE (b. 26 Mar 1895 d. 2 May 1933)married Ben Van Roy and they had 6 children: Calvin, Milton, Ethyl,Florence, Norman and Verna Van Roy.
(Edmund and Emma's chidren were collectively first cousins (Christina, Julia, Irene and Alma and any siblings your grandmother had along with any kids Ida and August may have had.YOUR parent would be second cousins with Ivyl, Marvin, Calvin, Milton, Ethyl, Florence, Norman and Verna and with Ida and August's grandkids.)
Ida Liebmann married August Fontain of Humboldt (a farming community west of DePere/south of west Green Bay.) No knowledge collected so far of children.
I know this is a lot and seems messy. You should see my workspace! Please don't hesitate to ask for more. If' I have it, I share!
Thanks again for posting!
Cousin Julie
