Hi Mary,
I might be able to help you out here.I think you're talking about Jacob, the son of William and Patience. If so, He married Rachel Morelock (ref: will of George Morelock, her father) I don't know about any Cynthia Mansfield, or which Jacob she married, but the son of William and Patience married Rachel Morelock in Hawkins County, TN.This Jacob also died in or about 1831.He is listed on the 1830 Hw. census. His father-in-law, George, died and left his will in 1832 and named his daughter, Rachel as the wife of Jacob Light deceased.Since there was only one Jacob of this age for this time period in Hawkins County, I have to assume that George was talking about Jacob, son of William and Patience and he doesn't show up on any census after 1830.As far as his having a son, Michael, I don't know.He could have.Jacob and Rachel did have at least 4 children, if not 5.However, the names of these children I have not been able to establish. The census' don't list them by name until 1850, at which time they would have been in their own homes I'm sure.I have searched Hawkins, Sullivan, Washington and Greene County for wills, deeds, etc. anything to help make a connection to these children, but can't find anything that has done that. The only thing I have found, is a court suite concerning the descendants of William Morelock, which is very, very, long and names 4 children as Wright, Jonothan, William and Judah. However, Jacob, the nephew of Jacob had children by these names also. This Jacob also married a Morelock, Patience "Pasha" Morelock. This court suite is long and involves many descendants.I've often wondered if maybe the clerk didn't get confused with the Jacobs as we do.Michael might have been the 5th child. If so, he wasn't mentioned in the court suite.John Sr. brother of Jacob is my line.He had a Michael.Their brother, Vachel also had a Michael. One is Michael P. Light and the other is Michael D. Light. It is yet to be determined which is which though. The records for this time period are very scarce and the Lights of Hawkins and Sullivan Counties just did not make wills, or they have been lost.I don't know which.I have been looking for them for almost 15 years and haven't found them yet and I live here.Hope this helps, but it probably won't. Just gets you more confused probably but there were only four of William and Patience' children who stayed in East TN.John Sr., Vachel, Joshua and Jacob. The others left for Middle TN sometime between 1811 and 1822.They started selling land in 1811 and the last one was sold in 1822.This would have been George, Michael, Wright and possibly a William.Still don't know about him. There were also children of these boys by the name of Michael.I'll quit now.Good luck.
