Margaret J Martin b 1832 married George W. Light, Owen County, IN 9/7/1851.Her father was Enos Martin who was born around 1810 in Kentucky.I believe his father was John Martin, who arrived in Owen County around 1820, as did apparently Abner Light.I also believe George W. Light was the son of Baird (Bird) Light (Aug. 13 1805 - Feb. 6, 1887), son of Matthias Light (June 7, 1769 - 1810).Matthias Light was born in Pendleton District, South Carolina, and moved through Kentucky to Indiana somewhere between 1790 to 1810.
I have tracked down some intriguing census records that show that the John Martin I am looking for may have traveled from South Carolina to Indiana along with the Light family.John Martin shows up in the census of 1820 Owen County, Indiana with a family of eight persons. There was a John Martin in the census of 1810 Harrison County, IN with a family of seven persons. In the census of 1790 Pendleton District, South Carolina, there was a single man named John Martin, around 25 years of age (estimated) who may have been this same John Martin.
I am looking for information (1) that would tie John Martin to the Light family, or, (2) that would place the Lights somewhere specific in Kentucky in their travel to Indiana from South Carolina (the only information I have found merely states that the Light's passed through Kentucky; I am hoping to find a specific locale where I can direct my Martin research), and, (3) ultimately, I am trying to find information that would tie Enos Martin to John Martin and find John Martin's ancestry.
The Martin family is believed to be of Irish descent, as Mary Catherine Moore, wife of Matthias Light.
If anyone has any information that might tie John Martin to the Light family, please e-mail me.
