I too am trying to sort out the Lightners.I am interested in Ludwig (Ludowick, Loudy) and Michael Lightner, both sons of Mathias and Eva Lightner of Pennsylvania and both moved to Harrison county, Ohio and are both in the 1830 census. Some seem to think he is "Allen Lightner", but Ludwig Lightner has no young children in the 1830 census (no sign of Allen's son William Henry who was born in 1829), so they can not be the same person.Ludwig disappears after the 1830 census but younger brother Michael is still there in 1840.Ludwig was born about 1765.
Allen Lightner is in the 1860 Boyd county, Kentucky census, saying he was born in Pa and aged 81.But in the 1850 Greenup county, Kentucky census (he is under the name Allen Little), he says he is 80 and was born in Virginia.Son William 'Henry', head of his own household in 1850 Greenup, is also called 'Little' and says he was born in Ohio.In the 1850 census, all of Allen's and Polly's children were born in Ohio, except for Garret and Mariah, who were both born in Kentucky.Allen Little is in the 1840 Stock, Harrison, Ohio census with 3 young boys (Wm. Henry, Cornelius and Matthew) and 2 young daughters (Mary and Sarah Ann).In this census, he lists himself as 40-50 (presume 50) and his wife as 20-30, so given the 3 different ages he has given, he was born at some point between 1770 and 1790, either in Virginia or Pennsylvania.Known children from his first marriage 'seem' to be Allen (1809 or 1810, married Elizabeth Wilson), George (1814), James(1817, married Anne Wilson, sister of Allen Lightner's wife, Elizabeth, both sisters born in Virginia), and Ellen(1818, married John Ruth).Allen, George, James and Ellen were all born in Pennsylvania (Allen born in Washington county?).Allen, George, and James all lived in Marshall, Virginia in either or both 1850 and 1860 censuses.James and Anne then moved to Belmont county, Ohio.
Can anyone shed any more light on any of these Lightners. Are there any will records, etc or marriage records for either of Allen's marriages?
