In 1850 he and Cynthia (spelled Synthia).Their last name is spelled Lials. They are in Benton, Newton County, Missouri. Also living in the home is a John Liles (spelled Lials)and Arminta with children named Doctor and William.Four pages over on this census a Doctor F Liles is listed along with Martha and Josephus.
In 1860 Absalom and Cynthia are in Franklin, Newton County, Missouri. Children are Nancy, Young, Mary and Joseph.John Liles is found in Granby, Newton County, Missouri that same year.Arminta is still listed, along with Sevier (Doctor), William, Mary, James Newton, Nancy, Eliza, and John. There is also a man named Marion Chanler living in the home.He was a miner.Doctor F is missing from the 1860 census.
In my opinion I believe Doctor F is Francis Quincie Liles, who had often be linked as Absalom's brother.I think John is also their brother.
Sometime after 1860 Absalom and Cynthia moved to Newton County, Arkansas.Cynthia died 10 days after the birth of their last child, Cynthia. The baby later died, about 8 months later. It seems Absalom joined the Union army, 1st Arkansas Infantry Co. C as a Private.Later he enlisted with 2nd Arkansas Cavalry Co. D where he was a Corporal. The regiment was sent to Memphis around January of 1865.He died February 9, 1865, apparently of pneumonia. He is buried in Memphis National Cemetery.
There are too many similarities in the family to not link these three men as family members.
Absalom named one of his sons Josephus, the name of the first born son of Doctor F Liles.
John named his son Doctor Sevier.Absalom's son, Josephus would later name one of his sons Doctor Sevier.
I have sent for Absalom's military records from the National Archives.I hope to receive them within the next two weeks. If anyone knows about this family I would be very grateful for information.
