There are some amazing similiarities between your Lillis family history and mine. My great-great grandfather, Thomas Lillis, was born in County Clare in 1818 (a fairly large age difference if Margaret and Thomas are brother and sister) in, we believe, the region around Cooraclare, which if my memory serves me, is in close proximity to Labasheeda. We do not know when Thomas came to the USA or who accompanied him. He married Mary Ellen Mcinereny (1833-1883). They had several childen whose baptismal records I have. I will check to see if any of the god parents are named Mary Elisabeth. My great great grandfather also lived in the Dubuque area (also Keokuk, Iowa)in the late 1860s! where he had some of his children, a son Frank in 1868. However, prior to that he lived in Memphis, TN where also several of his children were born. A daughter, Bridget was born in Memphis in 1865. He later moved to Kansas City where my great grandfather, James Lillis (1867-1947, I can't recall if James was born in Iowa or Memphis), lived and where my grandfather, Bernard Sr. (1893-1960), my father, Bernard Jr. (1923-1998) and I were born. I would like to explore with you further whether a family connection exists. The Iowa connection is worth exploring. I have not been able to locate any ancestors or siblings of Thomas. Although while in Ireland in 1980, I made a connnection with common Lillis relatives. I can share that with you if we conclude there is a connection here. I'll check my records and get back to you. Please respond if you are interested in exploring this.Regards.
