My William Hays was born in Ireland about 1776. There is a William Hayes on the 1796 Flax Growers List. This William Hayes was from Kilteely, County Limerick. Is there any way to determine whether the William Hayes on the Flax List may be the William Hayes I am looking for?
My William Hays was married about 1795 and had a son David who was born in Ireland about 1796. William and David left Ireland between 1816 and 1819. William HAYS is listed in the 1820 Census for Half Moon, Saratoga County, NY. William HAYS was married twice in America. The first time was to Sophia TERPENING about 1820. The second time was to Maria ALSDORF on 17 Apr 1825. William died in Saratoga County on 30 Dec 1851. He and Maria are buried in the Clifton Park Baptist Church. I have information about his wives and children. What I have not been able to find is who he was married to in Ireland.
I know that David HAYS was a linen weaver. I also believe that David’s father was also a linen weaver. The family was Protestant, probably Baptist. I do not know where they lived in Ireland.
The Farrar 1769 Limerick Directory lists a William HAYES as a Woolen-Draper from Baal’s-bridge. There is also a William HAYES who is mentioned as being the brother of Jeremiah HAYES in the Limerick Will Abstracts on the http://wwwCelticCousins.net/ireland/http://wwwCelticCousins.net/ireland/ website. The will is dated 31 Aug 1731 in Cahitquillymore, County Limerick.
