Hi, Bob. Well, it is just another mystery in the story of the Lincolns yet to puzzle out. Like my gggGrandfather Brayton, the Ichabods just suddenly 'show up' in NY. As I mentioned in my post, Ichabod is listed on some land deeds around the same place and era as Brayton and his wife. I believe this is Ichabod Jr. as with him is listed Martha H.Also listed are Amariah (Ichabod Jr's brother) and his wife Melissa. I don't know what became ofIchabod. Amariah ended up staying in Wyoming county and he is buried in the Varysburg cemetary along with several of his children. My family moved on. I am working under the belief that they were part of the Lincoln family that followed the Westmoreland>Vermont>NY>MI trail. From all documents I have found I am fairly certain that Brayton and his father were both born in Vermont. They were all farmers and it makes sense, like you said, that they were looking for better land to farm. I am only following hunches and assumptions at this point. They are all I have to go on. I seem to belong to 'The Unknowns'.
